Adventures in Azeroth

It’s a Druid’s World (of Warcraft)

Trouble with fmod.dll and AVG?

Me too.  I tried logging on after work real quick and my AVG anti-virus said it had a trojan.  A quick check on the technical support forum had a post towards the top.  There’s a link in the post for downloading a new copy of the file.  AVG will still say there is a problem, but at least you’re up and running.

Or not…

Like a n00b, I read the first blue, did what it said and had the same problem.  Okay, now read the entire post to find out that AVG is working on a new definition to accept the file.  One poster says that if you turn off Resident Shield from the AVG control panel, then WoW will start up.  Many other posters pointed out that might be a bad idea…  As a member of the IT industry, I’m taking a night off and waiting for the AVG update.  Something about turning off security mechanisms while playing an online game connected to the Internet doesn’t sound like a good idea.

  1. I used to use AVG but switched to Avast! ( http://www.avast.com/ ) probably a year or so ago. For me, Avast! has been more intuitive and less intrusive than AVG, but of course personal mileage may vary.
